What Does 2024 Hold for the eSIM Industry?
We recently attended MWC 2024 in Barcelona where we caught up with some of the industry’s biggest leaders from Valid, Kigen, G+D, Thales, and IDEMIA to discuss their thoughts on the latest developments within the rapidly growing eSIM industry.
“The eSIM for IoT specification is the result of many years of industry collaboration for the broadest range of use cases”.
Bee Hayes-Thakore, VP Marketing, Kigen
The year 2024 is expected to see a major uptake in eSIM adoption. Kaleido anticipate that eSIM/iSIM shipments will reach 1.4 Billion in 2028, with the eSIM IoT specification and de facto inclusion in smartphone designs fuelling growth.
The GSMA’s eSIM for IoT specification (SGP32) set to launch this year also brings a host of advantages and challenges, like addressing low-powered IoT devices and supporting various IoT protocols. The integration of eSIM in IoT simplifies deployment, breaks down barriers and allows new connectivity providers to enter the ecosystem.
