International Travel in 2025:
Global Outbound Trips Up 4.5% on 2019, North America Arrivals Down 7% YoY

London, November 5th, 2025New insights from Kaleido Intelligence show that nearly every region worldwide is set to see continued growth in overnight and same day international outbound travel, reaching 2 billion trips in 2025, a 4.5% increase over 2019. North America is the only exception, with a marginal decline driven largely by fewer Canadians traveling to the US.

Inbound overnight and same-day international travel growth is expected across all regions except North America, which, along with East Asia & the Pacific, remains below pre-pandemic levels (with 2025 volumes reported at respective decreases of 25.9% and 3.3% on 2019).

Kaleido’s International Travel Outlook 2026 report covers inbound and outbound travel developments across all regions of the world for 2025, along with an outlook into the market for 2026 and 2027. The insights focus on regional outliers and outperformers, exploring the reasons behind changing travel patterns and outlining emerging travel hotspots.

As global travel continues its recovery and as volumes begin to show steady growth over 2019 levels, operators should take note of growing corridors and emerging destinations to inform their roaming strategies.

Steady Growth in 2025 Despite Regional Conflicts & Divisive US Policy

Travel patterns in 2025 have been shaped and defined by geopolitical conflicts, shifting travel appetites, and above all socioeconomic factors.

  • Europe & Central Asia continue to exhibit growth despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as travel volumes continue to normalise.
  • East Asia & Pacific region, whilst growing slower than in 2024, has displayed robust recovery following a delayed return to pre-pandemic normality in China. Outbound traffic has already exceeded 2019 levels, growing 5.7% on pre-pandemic numbers, and inbound traffic to the region is now only 3.3% smaller than it was in 2019.
  • In North America, the US trade and travel policies, coupled with abrasive rhetoric from the Trump administration earlier this year, have noticeably affected regional travel trends, leading to a sharp drop in Canadian outbound trips and a parallel decline in inbound arrivals to the US. Whilst the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup may work to offset this decline, Kaleido expects that inbound travel to North America will not recover to its pre-pandemic levels in the next few years.
  • North Africa & the Middle East continue to see notable growth, with the region’s inbound volumes expected to rise 12% on 2024. Whilst inbound travel to Israel is still severely hampered by the conflict in Gaza, the emergence of Morocco and Tunisia as tourist hotspots has contributed to significant regional growth. This, alongside growing consumer economies among the Gulf states and an upcoming GCC Unified Visa has allowed the region to exceed its previous YoY inbound growth.

Kaleido International Travel Outlook 2026: Key Findings

  • Growing consumer purchasing power and increased air connectivity have been among the most significant drivers of travel growth in 2025.
  • Travellers increasingly look towards less traditionally popular destinations as demand for experiential travel grows.
  • Eastern European inbound travel continues to recover, as does Russian inbound/outbound travel, though Ukrainian volumes continue to suffer.
